For students majoring in finance, business or accounting, at the undergraduate or graduate level, this 7th Edition is a comprehensive exposition of the ideas of modern finance. Every major topic in finance is discussed, accompanied by ample references to websites, and well chosen illustrations and exercises.
There is a bias towards the American financial scene, and presumably to students at American universities. Explaining ideas like the major asset classes and financial instruments. The latter include ever popular market indices, like the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500. The Dow Jones comes off as quite archaic, while the S&P 500 is a far better reflection of market behaviour.
Other topics include investment banking, private placements and shelf registration. All necessary to understand, if you ever plan on doing a startup one day. Which brings up another audience of readers. If you have no formal training in finance or related fields, but perhaps want to start a company, or you are in management, but from [say] an engineering or scientific background, then the text is great for extending your education. I'm not speaking hypothetically. I'm the CTO of a startup that went public, and I lack a formal finance background. So the book greatly helps remedy the deficiency.
